TREK MOUNTAIN BIKE | $30 per bike, TWO hours

Hit the trails on a mountain bike or take leisurely cruise into Middleburg for shopping.

FISHING POLES | $10 per pole

Guests under the age of 16 or adults with Virginia issued Fishing License have the opportunity to rent our fishing poles and dip a line in our pond.

BASKETBALL | Complimentary 

Work on your jump shot or play a pick-up game with loved ones. Basketball court is located next to the Putting Green and Tennis Courts. Pick up is at the Fitness Center or resort pool; first come first serve.

GLOW BOCCE BALL | Complimentary 

A fun twist on a backyard classic. With our glow in the dark Bocce set, the game doesn’t have to end just because the sun goes down. Reservations required.

TENNIS | Complimentary 

Court time with recreational rackets and tennis balls are available at the Fitness Desk or resort pool. Salamander has two hard surface tennis courts available on a first come, first serve basis. Priority is given to regular scheduled programs and private lessons. MURDER MYSTERY SHOW – THE HAMILTON MURDERS
October 29 | Doors open at 11:30 a.m.
On July 11, 1804, Alexander Hamilton lies dying on the ground. Aaron Burr stands nearby, a smoking gun in his hand. Historians have told their side of the story but join us and hear the untold version. Decide who the real killer is and prepare to change the course of history! HALLOWEEN PUMPKIN DROP

ART TASTINGS
Enjoy a social painting class with a gourmet tasting of cupcakes. An artful presentation of treats will get your creative juices flowing while artist, Mary Jennings guides you through creating a finished work on canvas. Two hours, $75 per person, four person minimum.

WINE & PAINTING CLASS
While sipping on Virginia’s best wine, try your hand at painting an original Jackson Paddock or a Vincent Van Woha. No typo here. We did say, “original” works of art custom to Salamander Resort & Spa. Two hours, $85 per person, four person minimum.

BIKING WINE & CIDER TOUR
Take in the beautiful countryside and fall foliage on a guided bike ride from the resort to Boxwood Winery for a tasting, then Mt. Defiance Distillery for a cider tasting before returning to the resort. $90 per person, two and a half hours, two person minimum.

APPLE PICKING OR PUMPKIN PICKING
Apple picking is one of the many highlights of fall in Virginia. Sit back as we provide transportation to and from Hollin Farms, where you can pick your own apples or pumpkins. Wednesdays through Sundays, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. $65 per person, six person minimum.

YOGA IN NATURE
Be one with nature for this unique experience! Start the session with a hike to a wooded area where you’ll practice yoga with an instructor for 60 minutes, before hiking back to the resort. Private session for one person is $110, two people $75 per person.

ZOMBIE ARCHERY
Prepare for a zombie apocalypse with our archery class with a fun twist. Zombie targets are added to our regular set up for your aiming pleasure! $50 per person, minimum of two people, maximum of four people. 45 minutes.

Zip Lining

The Tree Top Zip Tours by Empower are an exhilarating adventure and a thrilling bird’s eye view of the Virginia countryside carefully designed to work harmoniously and respectfully with its surrounding environment.

Guided by our professional staff, the zip lining experience begins and ends on the resort’s grand lawn. Following a short walk, safety briefing and outfitting, participants enter the course with a staircase walk to the top of the Tower. The course is comprised of a series of rope bridges and zip lines that vary in length from 90 to 670 feet in length. While tethered to an advanced pulley system, guests glide from tree top platform to tree top platform on five different zip lines and two suspension sky bridges. The course spans over 20 acres and is over a half mile long.

Horsing Around

All trails lead here. The equestrian center is the most unique feature of Salamander Resort & Spa. With 25 acres dedicated to entry-level equestrian use, our beautiful Equestrian Center features a 14,000-square-foot stable complete with 22 stalls, nine beautiful paddocks and a spectacular outdoor riding arena with ThorTurf footing.

This fall, local area residents receive 50% off trail rides and riding lessons, Sunday afternoon through Friday. This does exclude holiday and high-demand periods.

COUNTRYSIDE GROUP TRAIL RIDES

Discover the natural beauty of our countryside in the winter while riding our gentle trail horses. Your guide will take you through the wooded trails for a one hour leisurely walk. Weather permitting.

RIDING LESSONS

Instruction is offered on our seasoned lesson horses and ponies; however, the session may also be enjoyed on your own horse. Lessons may include grooming, leading, ground safety and riding. We do not offer jumping instruction. One hour.

Whether a novice or a crack shot, sporting clays provide a fun outing in the Virginia countryside and this exhilarating off-site adventure is just minutes from our property. Available weather permitting; 48-hour advance notice required. Ages 18 & up. Six people minimum.

ARCHERY | $35 per person

From beginners to intermediates, this archery class is a great opportunity to learn the fundamentals, marksmanship and safety behind the fast growing sport. 45 minutes. Ages 8 & up. Two person minimum.

NATURE HIKE | $25 per person

Join one of our enthusiastic recreation guides for a subtle hike focused on just getting outside and learning about the resort, Middleburg and the countryside. 45 minutes.

ADVANCED NATURE HIKE | $25 per person

For those who enjoy rigorous and strenuous hikes, stomp along with one of our recreation guides as we take you deep into our trails on the resort and prepare to work up a sweat. 45 minutes.

BEGINNER FISHERMAN | $35 per person

Spend the afternoon learning the basics of fishing in the Salamander pond, from selecting the right gear to casting fundamentals. Catch and release only. One hour program; ages 6-15 years old.

INTERMEDIATE FISHERMAN | $55 per person

Receive a full introduction to gear and casting techniques and take time to practice your casting, before enjoying live action fishing on our very own Salamander pond. Catch and release only. Two-hour program; ages 6-15 years old.

YOUTH BASKETBALL LESSON | $30 per person

Join our instructor at the basketball court and learn fundamental skills to propel you to the next level of your game.  30 minute program.

TENNIS PRIVATE LESSON OR HIT LESSON | $125 per person

Learn to master your skills with a certified instructor from Blue Chip Tennis Academy. 60-minute private tennis lesson or learn to serve heat with a hit lesson. 

ULTIMATE FALCONRY EXPERIENCE | Saturdays | Noon | $180 per person

With nature as our classroom, experience the thrill of partnering with a raptor. After a classroom session on the amazing bird, experience the thrill of a lifetime as you have the opportunity to have a bird of prey fly to your arm. Ages 12 & up. Four person minimum.

Camp Salamander

While the parents are away, the kids will play. Camp Salamander is our activity-filled camp for kids, offering countless opportunities to let loose, compete in scavenger hunts, learn about the stars and explore the great outdoors. Full-day and half day options are available; junior guests ages 4-10 years old.

From hiking and exploring, to building cardboard boats and forts, feeding horses at the stables and so much more! Camp Salamander's certified guides have a thrilling lineup of activities that kids just can't get enough of.

Yappy Hour

Join us every Tuesday this summer for a doggone good time! Our Yappy Hour is every Tuesday from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. in May through October.

Watch as your pooch tests their skills in the obstacle course while you indulge in a special menu from Gold Cup Wine Bar featuring 'Sharing Chow' including our Pimento Cheese “Hush Puppies” and a refreshing Pup-tail Menu with our Spicy Pup-arita with Blanco tequila.   • WATERCOLOR ANYWAY & ANYWHERE | $50 | Learn sketching and watercolor painting techniques that can become part of your favorite travel experiences. This enjoyable and accessible way of creating will help you capture what you see almost better than a camera. One and a half hours.
  • ART TASTINGS | $75 | Without tasting, we may never know what we’ve been missing out on. An artful presentation of treats will get your creative juices flowing while you’re guided through a social painting experience, creating a 9x12 finished work on canvas. Two hours.

Equispective

Created by Equestrian Director, Sheryl Jordan, EquiSpective is a personal discovery program that helps people learn more about their communication and leadership style by connecting with horses with the ultimate goal of developing extensive leadership expertise, regardless of one’s experience.

Using an innovative hands-on approach, participants connect with horses while exploring relationship awareness, communication style and leadership techniques. The key to this program is studying a horse’s ability to relate with humans and others within its herd. Participants will quickly draw the correlations between these alliances, providing the tools needed to further develop the artistry of leadership. In addition, they will gain a humble understanding and respect for these powerful, gracious animals.

Equestrian Director, Sheryl Jordan, has devoted the past 40+ years to better understanding the relationships between horses, humans and nature which has culminated in EquiSpective. For the last 20+ years she has developed, fine-tuned, coached and practiced this program, achieving incredible results. She has extensive experience in facilitating this program and will tailor it to suit your needs. EquiSpective is a perfect fit for corporate management meetings and retreats, families, social groups, students and individuals. The multi-level hands-on interaction covers groundwork, round-pen exercises and much more. Each phase promises to equip the participant with deeper self-awareness and life-changing leadership skills.

Settle into a comfy lounge chair with a specialty drink and your favorite summer read. At Splash Pool & Cafe, relaxation is key. The intimate surroundings make it easy to lay back and soak up some glorious sunshine.

When the sun begins to notch up the temperature, there’s plenty of ways to keep cool. Take a comfortable swim in the pool or make your way over to the two cascading water features where kids (big and small) will undoubtedly find refreshing jets of shooting water endlessly entertaining. Throughout the day, the Splash team will be on hand to offer delicious complimentary frozen berries, grapes and other summer amenities.

Stay for lunch and enjoy Splash Pool Cafe’s hearty menu of backyard favorites including burgers, brats, delicious gourmet sandwiches, wraps and salads to appease every appetite.
