Art Classes

WINE & PAINTING | $90 per person | Tuesdays | 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Enjoy a fun way to paint and create your own original piece of work while sipping on different local wines.
Ages 21 & up.

ARTFUL SATURDAYS | 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Get your creative juices flowing each Saturday with any of the offerings from our artist-in-residence, Mary Jennings. Each week enjoy an a la carte menu of art options including:

  • BRUSH WITH GREATNESS | $75 | A fun way to experiment using painting techniques like some of the master artists of our time. Try your hand at painting an original Jackson Paddock or a Vincent Van Woha. No typo here. We did say, “original” works of art custom to Salamander Resort & Spa. Two hours.
  • PYRO-GRAPHIC KEEPSAKE | $50 | Pyrography is a slow process of burning wood with a specialized heated tool to create a work of art. The smell created in the process is rustic, comforting and may remind you of great times sitting around the campfire with friends. One and a half hours.
  • WATERCOLOR ANYWAY & ANYWHERE | $50 | Learn sketching and watercolor painting techniques that can become part of your favorite travel experiences. This enjoyable and accessible way of creating will help you capture what you see almost better than a camera. One and a half hours.
  • ART TASTINGS | $75 | Without tasting, we may never know what we’ve been missing out on. An artful presentation of treats will get your creative juices flowing while you’re guided through a social painting experience, creating a 9x12 finished work on canvas. Two hours.

Saturdays | 2:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. | $25 per child
Allow your child’s creativity to run wild in these art classes, under the direction of artist Mary Jennings. Choose one theme for the day; first guest to sign up determines what class is offered. Four-person minimum.

  • SMALL DELIGHTS – Create a small painting of a small delight! Make your favorite candy, animal or toy come to life on your canvas to keep for yourself or give as a gift.
  • COLLAGE ART – Scraps become art in this fun-filled class! We take different colored scraps of paper and create a collage of art.
  • THANK YOU LETTERING – The art of writing a thank you note is the best! This class teaches you how to add fun lettering to your note for a “thank you” that truly makes a statement
  • CRAYON ART – Crayons and heat: the new perfect pair! We combine the two in this exciting class to design abstract pieces.
  • PAPER ART - Using fun paper and pages from old books, we create some new and interesting dimensional art.

  • BUILDING BUDDIES - This is up-cycling with a twist. We use the twist of a cork and some other building materials to make a frame, candle holder or even a fun cork pet.

Shinola Bicycles

$30 per person.

Rent our exclusive Shinola bicycles for an exciting adventure! Roll into Middleburg to discover the charming city or enjoy one of the many vineyards in our area. The story of every Shinola bicycle begins in the legendary Waterford Precision Cycles factory in Wisconsin. Each lightweight steel frame is individually handcrafted to Shinola's specifications and design, with Shinola's unique geometry, dropouts and fork crown. After the frames and forks are welded and painted at Waterford, they’re shipped to Shinola's Detroit Flagship store for final assembly by their master mechanics.

Our Shinola bicycles also have a rack that perfectly fits our picnic baskets. To place your order for a customized picnic basket, please call 540.326.4070.

Inspired by the enduring French style of Porteur bicycles first used by newspaper couriers in Paris, the Runwell delivers a classic blend of urban style and practicality. Available in both men’s and women’s models and meticulously designed to yield the best characteristics of a lugged steel frame and fork, the Runwell is engineered for predictable and smooth handling on any terrain. The internal cable routing and virtually maintenance-free Shimano Alfine 11-speed internal hub mean daily riders will rarely need to worry about adjustment, upkeep or exposure to the elements. With a hand-built frame and fork, responsive handling, unrivaled stopping power and classic styling—the Runwell is truly a unique and worthy voice in the crowd.

Shinola was conceived with the belief that products should be well made and built to last. As makers of modern watches, bicycles, journals and leather goods, Shinola stands for skill at scale, the preservation of craft and the beauty of industry.
