Equestrian Programs

All trails lead here. The equestrian center is one of the most unique features of Salamander Resort & Spa. With 25 acres dedicated to entry-level equestrian use, our beautiful Equestrian Center features a 14,000-square-foot stable complete with 22 stalls, nine beautiful paddocks and a spectacular outdoor riding arena with ThorTurf footing.

COUNTRYSIDE GROUP TRAIL RIDES

$135 per person | Ages 10 & up
Discover the natural beauty of our countryside while riding our gentle trail horses. Your guide will take you through the wooded trails for a one hour leisurely walk to explore the resort grounds and picturesque countryside. Weather and ground conditions permitting.

STONE WALL PRIVATE TRAIL RIDE

$235 per person | Ages 10 & up
Seek solitude and relaxation on this guided ride through our woods and fields showcasing historic stone wall. Designed for the more experienced rider; four riders maximum per hour.

RIDING LESSONS

$135 per person | Ages 5 & up
Enjoy a private, one-hour instruction on one of our seasoned lesson horses and ponies. All lessons are conducted by our experienced staff and focus on balanced seat, centered riding, hunt seat on the flat, basic dressage and stock seat. Lessons may include grooming, leading, ground safety and riding. We do not offer jumping instruction. Weather permitting.

SALAMANDER HORSEMANSHIP CLUB

$400 per person | Ages 10 & up
For the horse-crazy child or adult! Spend half the day in the world of horses with Essential Horsemanship, Equine Communication, Stable Management, a Riding Lesson and a Trail Ride. Each participant receives an official Equestrian Center hat, photo of your favorite horse and a keepsake photo frame. In addition, parents or adult participants receive complimentary two-hour spa facility access for two adults, one complimentary rasul treatment per package and a 10% discount on 50 minute or longer spa services.

ESSENTIAL HORSEMANSHIP

$135 per person | Ages 5 & up
Whether you are new to horses or wanting to add to your equestrian skills, this program can cover anything from grooming and handling techniques to braiding, bandaging, tacking (English or Western) and everything in between. One hour in stables.

EQUINE COMMUNICATION

$135 per person | Ages 5 & up
This unique program partners horse and human to enlighten on the topics of leadership, authenticity, clear communication and the impact of body language and energy. Explore the world of “horse whispering” and experience an interaction like none other. Group rates available. Weather permitting.

PONY RIDE

$35 per child | Ages 2-4
Make lifetime memories as your children enjoy a 10-minute ride on one of our adorable ponies, on the Stable lawn. Parent or guardian must side-walk with child.

PAINT-A-PONY

$135 per person | Ages 5 & up
Tour the stables and learn about our horse’s coat colors, markings and breeds. Followed by an introduction to grooming and conformation of the horse. The session ends with each participant painting their own model horse to look like one of the Salamander horses or their dream horse! One hour in stables.

OVERNIGHT BOARDING

$100 per horse, per night; $50 day-stall
Your horse will experience the Salamander full-service care when you board them with us. Each boarding includes hay, shavings, use of facility, private turnout and trailer parking. Al a carte services also available.

Deck the Stalls

Daily in December l 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. | $135 per child
Visit the Equestrian Center this December and get our horses in the holiday spirit. Each child will receive a stocking filled with candy canes, apples and carrots to decorate for their favorite horse’s stall, before grooming their pony and going on a ride. Weather permitting.

There are more than twenty wineries within 30 minutes of Salamander Resort & Spa which attract visitors from all walks of life, making Middleburg one of the top wine destinations in the country. Keeping Up With Cupcake

Meet the sweetest member of our team, Cupcake! Our friend may be little in size but this miniature horse has a big personality. Every Friday and Saturday at 4:00 p.m. she joins our team in the Living Room to greet our guests and welcome them to their home-away-from-home.

Cocktails With Cupcake

Our little friend’s festive spirit is perfectly paired with Gold Cup’s Cupcake Cocktail. Only offered while Cupcake is visiting the Living Room, enjoy this libation featuring vanilla vodka, dark and light Godiva, house-made whipped cream topped with rainbow sprinkles. $14 per drink.

Archery & Axe Throwing

Archery

From beginners to intermediates, this archery class is a great opportunity to learn the fundamentals,
marksmanship and safety behind the fast-growing sport.
Session is scheduled for 45 minutes.

Zombie Archery

$50 per person l Ages 8 & up
Prepare for a zombie apocalypse with our fun twist on our archery class. Zombie
targets are added to our regular set up for your aiming pleasure.

Axe Throwing 

11:00 a.m. l $50 per person l Ages 18 & up
Axe Throwing is one of the newest activities at the resort and not only combines sport and technique, but will give you an exhilarating feeling of strength and ruggedness. A great way to get outdoors and enjoy the beauty of the resort, this activity will thoroughly go over several throwing techniques before you participate in a friendly competition. Similar to archery, not only is axe throwing entertaining and unique, but can help you cultivate a skill that is useful in many survival or sporting situations. Relax, kick back, and feel like a lumberjack!

Blades & Bows

$75 per person l Ages 18 & up
Experience both archery & axe throwing in the Meadow as a standalone activity.
Sessions are 30 minutes each, scheduled back to back.

In December, Santa is sending a special elf to keep an eye on the children and holiday happenings at the resort. Look around to see where Sally the Elf is playing each day and remember to be “nice” because when everyone is asleep, Sally uses her magical powers to go back to the North Pole to report to Santa.

Michelin Star Chef Weekend with Alberto Annarumma

Michelin Star Chef Alberto Annarumma joins Salamander Resort & Spa for an exciting Michelin Star Chef Weekend on December 13-15 in partnership with Forever Gourmet. Chef Annarumma will host a meet-and-greet, cooking class, exclusive eight-course dinner, as well as a farewell brunch.

He used to draw comics, today he "paints" dishes. The cuisine of Alberto Annarumma is not based simply on tradition, it is a world steeped in the past where the passion for art reigns in the center. Chef Annarumma earned his Michelin Star at the famed restaurant La Casa del Nonno 13 on the Almafi Coast and has now taken the reigns at Masseria Guida in Ercolano.
