Salamander Resort & Spa’s Jefferson Appletini On most nights, the two campfires sitting a few hundred feet from Salamander’s Gold Cup bar are good settings for recapping the day’s activities or having your first lesson in s’mores-making. We don’t know if it’s the autumn air in Middleburg, Virginia, or what, but gatherings around the flames with a drink are even better. The Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star property suggests snuggling up with the Jefferson Appletini, a future fall favorite made from Va. Distillery Co. whiskey, apple pie moonshine, apple-cardamom shrub and local apple cider.

When I found out I would be heading to Middleburg, VA a small town just 20 miles from Washington, D.C.’s Dulles Airport and 40 miles from the Nation’s Capital I was intrigued to say the least. I have driven through the state a few times, but never had the chance to get up close and personal with the gorgeous place. I have to say I am really happy and grateful to Kia for making this all happen because it is simply magical. Its authenticity, history and culture are indescribable. If you ever have the chance please visit. I think everyone should see it at least once in their lifetime.

We stayed at the beautiful Salamander Resort. Did I mention it was beautiful? It’s only surrounded by colonial estates, equestrian centers, and vineyards. And I’m officially in love with their Spa and Wellness Center. This resort was the setting for an inspiring few days. I wish I had more time to explore the town, but I was there for one thing only…to drive my little heart out. And that’s what I did. All along the Virginia countryside, through the Shenandoah National Park and back.
